If you're on the market for a portable vaporizer that can be used with both dry herbs and waxy concentrates, and you would rather not break the bank, the Pulsar APX is an exceptional choice. Available in a variety of colours, the Pulsar APX is perfect for novices and one of the most affordable portable vape models on the market. At first glance, the Pulsar APX looks like a toy gamic, but looks can be deceiving. When put to the test, I was somewhat actually surprised to see how it performed.
But let’s take a quick look at the APX Vaporizer.
What’s in the box:
Upon opening the well-designed packaging, you are greeted with a rather neat little device. The Pulsar APX feels durable and sturdy in your hands and its functionality fits well with the overall design. Inside the underneath box’s compartment you will find a slip-on mouthpiece heat guard, extra screens, cleaning brush, packing tool, tweezers and USB charger.
Manufacture quality and battery life:
The first thing I noticed was its size, only 10 cm long, 2.5 cm wide and extremely light weight, making this vaporizer a perfect pocket-portable vape. The body is completely plastic, however, the majority of it has a slightly rubberized texture which helps with grip and also gives a “higher-quality” feel. The Pulsar APX houses a ceramic heating chamber with a stainless-steel base to vaporize your dry herbs evenly and comes with a concentrate canister that can easily be fitted in to vape waxy concentrates. The temperature control functionality of the APX dry herb goes from 356° to 428°F (180-220°C) and are colour coded making it very simple and easy to choose your preferred temperature setting. I did find that the air pathway is somewhat restricted when taking draws. The button feels slightly cheap and moves around a bit when pressed, but otherwise, everything fits together well. There’s nothing particularly glamorous about this unit, but it gets the job done with cheap materials dressed up in a nice patterned skin. The APX Pulsar is powered by a 1600mAh lithium-ion battery, enough to last you for about 7 sessions and takes about 90 minutes to recharge fully, which is about average for a portable wax vape and dry herb vaporizer.
How it works:
The 1-button design makes this vape exceptionally easy to use. Loading and unloading the chamber is as easy as popping the mouthpiece on and off not much more to it. This is a very straightforward vape, and if you are looking for something easy, this is definitely something to check out. 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off and simply hold down on the button to toggle through the pre-set temperatures. Beginners will have a stress-free time using the Pulsar APX, and unlike some other portable vaporizers, the APX has a cool touch mouthpiece that doesn't get hot during use. The vape heats up in about 40 seconds, which is extremely fast for a convection style wax and dry herb vaporizer.
Vapour Quality:
The Pulsar APX, can give remarkably high vapour quality that rivals the experience of using a high-end vaporizer. It's a convection vaporizer, so it evenly heats herbs and wax without combusting them, and its ceramic heating chamber delivers a pleasing taste at first and while the flavours won’t last long, the draw remains very smooth and cool on the throat.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
Cleaning is also pretty easy, the screen can be removed, cleaned with ISO alcohol and replace to keep the air pathway as fresh as possible, the entire mouthpiece can soak in a gentle cleaning solution, but I would not suggest submerging the device or mouthpiece in ISO. A quick swab of the heating chamber will suffice and is all that will be required to keep this little unit ready for the next session.
Final thoughts:
The Pulsar APX is sure to meet the needs of those looking for their first portable vaporizer. When you consider the low price, the Pulsar APX Vaporizer offers true value for the money. The unit effectively vaporizes both dry herb and concentrates, which can be a hard find at this price. The vapour is pleasant, and the 5 temperature settings give enough flexibility to accommodate different preferences.
It will all depend on what you are looking for in a vaporizer. You’re obviously going to get better results from higher powered units, such as the CF or the Mighty Vaporizer. That’s a given. However, if you are unsure on whether you will enjoy vaporizing and want to try it out without exceeding the budget, then the APX is right for you.
For now, happy vaping all.
